Notes from Oklahoma!

Oklahoma! Where the wind comes sweeping down the plains ....

IN THE BACK OF THE VAN, AND READY TO GO!

Okay, at the moment, there's no wind (and it's very green, which I understand is unusual) but it sure is pretty here.

We're currently with the family of Alice, Catherine's new BFF, who she met in China. They are having sooooo much fun, although last night they managed to NOT stay up until 1 a.m. singing Mr. Mutt. (Here's a link to the Mr. Mutt song they invented in China for those of you who weren't following the China blog. Imagine wandering the streets of China after dark w/ two little girls singing at the top of their lungs! Go here, and then scroll down to November 7. Sorry, no permalink! http://redthreadchronicles.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html).

Anyway, the girls have become buds and penpals, and we decided that on our way to RWA National this year, we'd go to Oklahoma first (no, we're not geographically challenged, OK is past Dallas from Georgetown, but what the heck?).

CATHERINE AND ALICE ON THE HORSE. Catherine couldn't reach the stirrups and announced that she "couldn't reach the pedals."

The first day's drive was easier than I expected considering that Texas is pretty much underwater. I think our rented minivan (filled to the gills with more clothes than humans really need for 10 days) must be part boat. We arrived in Ardmore, spend the night there, and then continued on to Enid. Adorable town! And because it was wet her on the fourth, we also got to see fireworks our first night here. The girls loved them!

We've been having a great time! Catherine and Isabella both road Misty, Alica and her siblings' grandparents' horse (Alice and her mom were in China when we were to adopt an eight year boy who's as sweet as he can be, and also have a 5 year old girl and a 3 year old boy, and the kids are getting along great. Even Isabella is joining the wackiness!).

For everyone who's emailed or contacted me lately, I'll try to catch up next week. I'm at a t-mobile hotspot now, so we're mostly vacationing without internet!

Here are some more pictures of the kids:

That's probably enough for today!

Signing off from Oklahoma!
